Former New York Knicks Head Coach Larry Brown has officially accepted the SMU head job. Signing Brown is a huge move for a program that is set to move out of Conference USA and into the much tougher Big East in 2013.

In addition to be named Head Coach, Brown was able to get SMU to name Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich “coach-in-waiting.” SMU athletic direct Steve Orsini released a statement today calling the 71 year-old Brown “a legend and has made every team he has ever coached a winner.” If Brown is to live up to that praise he is going to have a lot of work to do as SMU last made the NCAA tournament in 1993.

Larry Brown is the only coach in Basketball history to win a title in both NCAA baskball and the NBA. Brown last coached the Charlotte Bobcats, stepping down during the 2010 season.
