There was another strange scene on a golf course yesterday. We've seen golfers throw their ball into the crowd, but never a spectator at the golfer.

On Thursday, during their opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship, playing partners Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler had quite the unusual incident. While hitting their tee shots on the par-3 sixth hole, a spectator threw a golf ball with an earplug attached to it in the direction of Fowler and McIlroy.

"So random," Fowler said. "The guy tried to say it was a gift. I don't know why you would give a gift of a golf ball with an earplug attached to it."

The fan was escorted off of the course by police following the incident.

"It was one of those things," McIlroy said. "It was a golf ball with an ear plug stuck on it, so it was sort of strange."

Both players went on to have mediocre days as they trail the leader Steve Wheatcroft and Andrew Loupe who each shot 7-under 65's.
