La Salle graduate J.P. Sportman went 2-3 in his first game for Class A Advanced Stockton Ports of the Oakland A's system.

Sportman had a double and a triple to go along with two RBIs in the Ports 3-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels).

He hit leadoff in front of a name baseball fans will know, Josh Redick. Redick, the power-hitting A's outfielder, is on a rehab assignment.

A 27th-round draft pick in last year's draft, Sportman has soared through the A's system, racing through the Arizona league and the New York-Penn League's Vermont Lake Monsters last season. He then skipped Low-A ball out of Spring Training this year by being placed in Stockton.

He also hit two home runs in major league spring games this year.

Shenendehowa graduate Branden Cogswell is also on the Ports roster. The University of Virginia graduate hit in the eight spot and started at second base, going 0-4.
