Spurs-Thunder Ends In Controversy

Game 1 and game 2 were two totally different games in the San Antonio Spurs-Oklahoma City Thunder series. After losing by 32 in game 1, the Thunder came back to knot the series at a game apiece as they stole game 2 in San Antonio 98-97.

The game came down to a final possession in which Manu Ginobili seemed to cross the sideline where Thunder guard Dion Waiters was inbounding the ball. Waiters threw an elbow into the chest of Ginobili to clear space and inbound the ball. The ball was stolen on the inbound pass by Danny Green after he stripped Kevin Durant of the ball, which resulted in a corner three by Patty Mills which barely drew iron and gave the Thunder the victory.

"On the floor, we did not see a foul on the play," lead referee Ken Mauer said. "However, upon review we realize and we agree we should have had an offensive foul on the play. It's a play we've never seen before, ever. We should have had an offensive foul on the play."

On the back-end of that play, a fan seemed to grab Thunder forward Steven Adams as he was falling out of bounds and trying to get back in the play. Whether it was on purpose or not is still under league review, but it did not effect the result at the end of the game.

"It was an up-and-down game, all game, it was a grind-it-out," Thunder guard Russell Westbrook said. "I don't really know what happened on that last play. I just know we were able to come out on top."

Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge had a game for the ages in the loss. Aldridge became the 3rd player in Spurs franchise history to score at least 70 points in the first two games of a playoff series (Duncan and Gervin). He also became the 5th player all-time to score 40 points and go 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in a playoff game and lose, the last being Gilbert Arenas in 2006.

"We never say 'Here we go again,' because honestly we don't think we gave away leads in the fourth quarter as many times as you may think," Westbrook said. "We came out and competed at a high level like we've been doing all season long. Made plays, made shots and came out with the win."
