"I identify myself with New York," said Strawberry, when he called into Armen Williams' show on 104.5 The Team on Friday. "I'm a true New Yorker. The Mets and Yankees are my teams that I ended up winning championships with.

"New York has been great to me, regardless of what my life has been through the good times and the bad times. The fans have always been great to me in New York. It always will be a place in my heart that I will always love."

Strawberry has one World Series ring with the Mets and three with the Yankees. Which one means the most?

"It's always the first one because you never know if you're going to get a chance to get that opportunity ever again."

The first World Series championship for Strawberry came with the '86 Mets.
