The New York Yankees got another solid start from rookie starter Ivan Nova on Friday night as Nova picked up his 15th win. Brett Gardner provided the big hit with a 2-run home run, and Mariano Rivera picked up his 37th save of the season and his 596th career save.

The Yankees got another great start from Ivan Nova, who went 7 innings giving up just 3 hits, 2 runs (both of which came in the first inning), walked 2 and struck out 4. Nova collected his 15th win to move to 15-4 on the season. Nova has the most wins by arookie starter since Stan Bahnsen won 17 games in 1968. Bahnsen ended up being crowned Rookie of the Year as well.

Brett Gardner provided the big hit of the game with his 2-run home run. Robinson Cano got another big hit with his single giving the Yankees the 3-2 lead.

Mariano Rivera got a well-earned 37th save of the season as he had to strike out Jose Bautista and Adam Lind in the 9th inning. With that save, Mo now has 596 in his career. He is 6 saves from Trevor Hoffman.

Alex Rodriguez sat out of the lineup for another night as he recovers from his thumb injury. Mark Teixeira was not available at all Friday night as his knee was still sore and swollen from being hit in Boston against the Red Sox. Both could see action later on in the weekend series.
