Despite NCAA sanctions Syracuse University lands a commitment from a 5 star recruitEarlier this year, the Syracuse Orange basketball program was placed on probation by the NCAA. Despite the sanctions, Coach Boeheim's program continues to sign highly touted prospects for the future. Today, Syracuse received a verbal commitment from five star guard  Tyus Battle. Battle, a six foot six guard from Gill St.Bernad's (NJ) chose Syracuse over Michigan, Louisville, Virginia, Kentucky and UConn. Battle had committed to Michigan in May but reopened his recruitment after wanting to play for a school closer to home.

I wanted to be closer to home. They told me I could be a versatile guard who could have the ball in my hands a lot. Michigan is a great school, and I love the people, the staff and Coach Beilein but the key was the distance

Battle joins top fifty recruit Matthew Moyer in the class of 2016 for Syracuse. Before Battle and Moyer join the Orange in 2016, the current Syracuse squad will look to get back to the NCAA tournament when they tip off the season in November. Syracuse will feature a top-10 recruiting class in 2015 with four ESPN 100 players.
