Forecasting The Rest Of Yankees-Mariners

The Yankees took game one of a four-game set in Seattle 6-1 behind a six-run third inning that saw back-to-back home runs from Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira and a solid performance from Phil Hughes, who seems to give up less home runs on the road for some reason.  Hughes is now 4-0 with a 0.82 ERA all-time at Safeco Field.  Let's have a look at the rest of the series.

This Has To Be The End For Andy Pettitte In The Bronx

No one will ever forget the postseason wins, the bulldog mentality, the cap set down just above the eyebrows as the cutter dives in on righties and away from lefties.  No one will forget saving the bacon in the Bronx time after time after time, nor will they forget outdueling John Smoltz in the 1996 World Series.

Why The Yankees Are In First Place

The demise of the Yankees was written at least a dozen times from February 1 until now.  The injuries, oh the injuries.  But baseball people must not have been baseball people through and through because they forgot that CC Sabathia and Robinson Cano and Mariano Rivera were still around and the bullpen was in tact.  And the division actually wasn't that good if you know how baseball teams win in 2013.  Here are the Top 5 reasons why the Yanks were in first place as of May 13, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Yankees-Royals Series Preview

The Yankees and upstart Royals play three in Kansas City. New York comes fresh off a series win in rainy Colorado. Kansas City comes off a series loss to the Orioles in Baltimore.  Here is a Yankees-Royals series preview.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore had a plan a couple years ago.  It was a plan to build through the farm, get pitching with some prospects and build an actual baseball team.  Well, here we are.  The Royals are good.  Are they really good?  Not yet, but even at 18-13 this club is showing early signs that the playoffs are possible, especially with the second Wild Card now in place.  The Yankees will see old Rays pitchers Wade Davis and James Shields in this series, two guys they know well from American League East ball.  Finally, Mariano Rivera returns to the scene where he tore his ACL shagging fly balls last year.

Yankees Need To Get Cliff Lee

Back in 2010, the Yankees failed to get Cliff Lee because minor league infielder David Adams didn't pass a physical due to a bum ankle and so the trade never happened with Seattle and Lee went to Texas instead and helped the Rangers win the pennant.  Lee, at that time, was the surest pitcher in baseball.  He isn't that now, at the age of 34, but the Yankees should still go get him.

Leadership Helping Yanks Stay Ahead

Talk all day long about the 2013 replacement players in pinstripes.  Talk about general manager Brian Cashman taking chances.  Talk about the starting pitching being good enough in spots.  Talk about whatever you'd like as the main reason for the Yankees' demise not quite happening just yet like some thought.  The real talk is the leadership and presence of Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte.  As long as those three are in the Bronx, it starts and ends with that.
