It didn't take a brawl, or a clothesline hit, for former New York Met Nelson Figueroa to put a showboat baseball player in his place. He handled it much better.
Carlos Castro may have celebrated a bit too much after hitting home run, but that still wasn't enough to justify what ex-New York Met Asdrubal Cabrera did next.
In last night's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke threw a 3-2 pitch in a 2-1 game that hit Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin. It seemed like an honest mistake given the count and score of the game, but Quentin didn't see it that way, charging the mound and breaking Greinke's collarbone in the process.
On Friday night, the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants did battle, literally, at AT&T Park in San Francisco. In the top of the 6th, the Phillies had an 8-2 lead. They had the bases loaded with Shane Victorino at the plate. Ramon Ramirez was on the mound for the Giants. Ramirez had already given up 3 runs in that inning of work. By now, I'm sure you've seen the video of Orioles pitcher Kevin Gregg and Boston's David Ortiz throwing punches in the Red Sox/Baltimore game on Friday night.
But the aftermath of the event is almost as good as the brawl.
Well the first brawl in 2011 has occurred. The Red Sox and Orioles went at it Friday night in Fenway Park in Boston. David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg were the main competitors in this fight. This got me thinking about fights/brawls in baseball.
