On the 100-year anniversary of Fenway Park, fans of the Boston Red Sox began the day cheering for Terry “Tito” Francona out of sheer joy and elation when he walked onto the field for a pregame ceremony. But by the end of this afternoon’s 6-2 loss to the Yankees, those same fans would chant “We Want Tito” with great disdain towards Boston’s new manager Bobby Valentine.

This afternoon is the first game of the 2012 MLB season pitting two of the bitterest rivals in all of American pro sports against each other: the New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox, and they will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Fenway Park. Some would call it a historic piece of real estate, others would call it an over-rated piece of crap, but that’s another debate for another time.

Friday was the home opener for the Boston Red Sox, and they did so by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 12-2.  Unfortunately they also might lose Jacoby Ellsbury for a period of time.
