Tigers Trade Schenectady’s Casper Wells To Mariners

Perhaps a change of scenery will do Casper Wells some good. A week after he was sent down to the minors by Detroit, the Tigers traded the Schenectady native on Saturday.

Wells goes to the Seattle Mariners as part of a 6 player deal.

In what Tigers manager Jim Leyland called a painful decision, Detroit sent Schenectady native Casper Wells down to AAA Toledo. 

Wells became the odd man out in a numbers game as the Tigers called up left-handed starting pitcher Duane Below.  Below made his Major League debut last week.

Justin Verlander got all the headlines in the Tigers' win over the Royals on Sunday but Casper Wells provided the offensive firepower.

Casper Wells is making quite an impression with the Detroit Tigers this season.  The  Tigers rightfielder is batting .260 with 4 homers and 12 RBIs.

But the Schenectady native is also making some great plays in the outfield.  His catch against San Francisco on Friday was good enough to make ESPN's Weekend Web Gems.
