It's Super Bowl weekend in Section II football. The Columbia at Shenendehowa battle for the Class AA championship will kick off the schedule on Friday at 7 p.m. at Steuerwald Stadium.

Section II football will start its "second season" on Friday, Oct. 21.  Pairings for the postseason tournament were announced Sunday morning at CBA of Albany.

Victor Fox of Bethlehem High School took medalist honors at the Section II State Golf Qualifier held at Orchard Creek (Altamont) on Thursday.  Nine golfers qualified for a berth on the Section II team which will compete in the state tournament at Cornell University in June 2012.

Thirty-nine golfers in Section II will converge on Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont, NY Tuesday when the Class A, B, CD playoffs take place.

It was a perfect night for longtime Shenendehowa head football coach Brent Steuerwald.  The Plainsmen posted their fifth shutout of the season with a 42-0 win over CBA of Albany to capture the Section II Class AA Empire Division championship Saturday night.

For the second straight week, Shenendehowa football will be involved in another game with an unbeaten team. This time it's CBA of Albany.  The two will clash in a big Class AA Empire Division game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Steuerwald Stadium on the Shenendehowa campus.

Section II will kick off the 2011 area high school football season tonight.One of the key games takes place in the Class AA Liberty Division where Shaker entertains Columbia at 7 p.m.

He played his high school football at CBA and is now playing major Division I college football at the University of Maryland. Today on "Sound-off with Sinkoff", Brian Sinkoff was joined by the Terps junior defensive tackle Joe Vellano.

Tonight, Jimmer Fredette will become a professional basketball player as the NBA Draft is taking place down at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. We don't know where Jimmer will go but we do know where he came from.  The Capital Region.

Right now, there are 3 players in Major League Baseball with ties to the Capital Region. So now that we're about a third of the way through the 2011 MLB season, how are they all doing? Here's an update.

Jimmer Fredette is about to become a player in the NBA but the Glens Falls High School graduate is already a player on the reality television scene. Today, "Jimmer Fredette - Follow Jimmer" began airing in webisodes on a dedicated YouTube channel and is also being  syndicated on SI.com.

Add another award to Jimmer Fredette's mantle. Today, the Glens Falls native was named the Associated Press college basketball player of the year.
