College Basketball Conference Tournaments Are Perfect The Way They Are

This weekend, the University at Albany played host to one of the first great moments of this year's NCAA basketball conference championship week when Albany's Mike Black hit a game winning layup to upset the America East's top seeded Stony Brook Seawolves. The Great Danes advanced to Saturday's championship game, the fans stormed the court, and it was a truly amazing moment.

Now people want to make sure moments like it can no longer happen.

America East Basketball Tournament – Saturday Recap (Men’s Quarterfinals)

March Madness has officially arrived for mid-major conferences throughout the week, and that includes our very own UAlbany Great Danes, who are hosting the America East Tournament throughout the weekend at SEFCU Arena. The ladies opened action on Friday with a triple-header of Quarterfinal match-ups (Maine forfeited against UAlbany due to travel concerns, hence only a triple-header), and the action continued Saturday with the four Men’s Quarterfinal games.

UAlbany Gets Pummeled By Stony Brook, Fall To Fourth Place In America East

One week ago, yours truly asserted that the UAlbany Great Danes needed to win two out of three home games against Boston University, Vermont, and Stony Brook to be taken seriously in the America East Conference this season. Last night, the Great Danes fell to Stony Brook 65-49 to complete that stretch at 0-3, proving that they are nowhere near good enough to compete for a conference championship this season.

Albany Great Danes Get Set For Games With Boston, Vermont, Stony Brook

The University at Albany men's basketball team is 16-4 and tied atop the America East conference standings with a 5-1 mark in league play. However, that could all be rendered meaningless if they fail to deliver with wins over the next week, with games against conference nemeses Boston University, Vermont, and Stony Brook all at home and all within the next seven days.

The dream of going to the NCAA's died-hard for Will Brown's ballclub Sunday in the America East semifinals vs top seed Stony Brook. The back and forth contest ended at the buzzer as Dallis Joyner tipped in Dave Coley's missed jumper as time expired to lead Stony Brook to a hard fought 57-55 win over the Great Danes
