UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Well Represented In New Movie

UAlbany men’s lacrosse players Ty, Miles and Lyle Thompson, along with former standout Mike Banks, are all making appearances in “Crooked Arrows,” Hollywood’s first feature film about the sport of lacrosse. The movie, produced by J. Todd Harris, Mitchell Peck and Adam Leff, is set to open this Friday, May 18, with showings locally at Crossgates Cinema.

Siena & UAlbany Men’s Lacrosse Come Up Short

As the end of last week made the turn into the weekend, both UAlbany and Siena were in prime positions to earn berths in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. The Great Danes dominated UMBC on Wednesday with a 19-8 blowout victory, setting up a contest at Stony Brook for the America East Title. And on the other hand, the Saints won an 11-9 slugfest against Marist and advanced to their fourth consecutive MAAC Championship Game. But within twenty-four hours, all of those “high hopes” turned into sheer disappointment.

University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena will host the 2013 America East Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championship. The league’s Athletic Directors voted to send the combined tournament to Albany for the first time this morning.

UAlbany Breaks Ground For New Multi-Sport Complex

UAlbany President George M. Philip, along with Vice President and Athletic Director Lee McElroy, was joined by public officials, coaches, student-athletes, alumni and supporters as the University broke ground on the construction of its new multi-sport complex, on Tuesday morning. Also announced was a $1 million challenge as part of a $2 million campaign to name the new field for head football coach Bob Ford, as presented by Dan Nolan ’73, a member of UAlbany’s President’s Club of outstanding contributors.

UAlbany Football Releases 2012 Schedule

For the first time in seven years, UAlbany will start its schedule at home, as the Great Danes will host Colgate on Sept. 1, 2012. Vice President and Athletic Director Lee McElroy, along with head football coach Bob Ford, announce the team’s upcoming fall schedule on Thursday, March 29, 2012. UAlbany will host five games at University Field, while taking on three non-conference opponents.

UAlbany Women’s Basketball Falls To Texas A&M In NCAA Tournament

Despite 14 points and nine rebounds from junior Ebone Henry, UAlbany fell to Texas A&M, 69-47, in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening at Reed Arena. In their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the Great Danes outrebounded the defending National Champions, 48-33.

UAlbany Women’s Basketball To Face Texas A&M In NCAA Tournament

University at Albany has earned a 14 seed and will travel to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, as announced on Monday evening. The Great Danes will take on the Aggies on Saturday, March 17 at approximately 6:30 p.m.(EST). Tip-off of the game will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Arkansas-Dayton match-up, which starts at 4:05 p.m.

UAlbany Will Host America East Women’s Basketball Championship

Nineteen points from Defensive Player of the Year Ebone Henry led UAlbany to a 58-50 victory over Binghamton in the America East Conference Women’s Basketball semifinals on Sunday afternoon at Chase Family Arena. With the win over the Bearcats, UAlbany advances to the program’s first-ever America East Conference Championship game. The Great Danes will host fifth-seeded UMBC on Saturday at 8 p.m. at SEFCU Arena.

UAlbany Women’s Basketball Earns America East Honors

UAlbany head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson was named the America East Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, announced at the 2012 awards reception held on the University of Hartford campus on Thursday. Junior guard/forward Ebone Henry was also named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, for the second straight season. Junior forward Julie Forster was also an All-Conference Second Team selection.
