Union Men’s Hockey Finishes Ranked Third In The Nation

The Union College men's ice hockey team remained at No. 3 in both the final USCHO.com and the USA Today and USA Hockey Magazine polls, the highest final ranking in the program's 21-year history at the Division I level. Union's previous high in the final national rankings was No. 12, which the team achieved in the April 11, 2011 editions of both polls. Union earned 871 points in the USCHO.com poll, and 424 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.

Union Men’s Hockey Earns All-America Honors

Sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick became the third Union men's ice hockey student-athlete to earn First Team All-American honors in the Division I era. Grosenick was named a 2012 First Team CCM All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday. Grosenick joins goaltenders Keith Kinkaid (2011), who earned first team honors last year and Trevor Koenig (1997).

Jeremy Welsh Signs Entry-Level NHL Contract

Junior forward Jeremy Welsh signed an entry-level NHL contract with the Carolina Hurricanes last night, announced Ron Francis, Director of Hockey Operations for the Carolina Hurricanes. Welsh will join the Hurricanes in Ft. Lauderdale for the team’s final game of the 2011-12 NHL season against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m..

Union College is already in Tampa preparing for their National Semifinal contest against Ferris State, and we've been keeping tabs on the Dutchmen throughout the NCAA Tournament.

Union Dutchmen Ready For “Frozen Four” Debut

For No. 3/3 Union (26-7-7, 14-4-4), a historic season continues in Tampa, as the Dutchmen will take on No. 9/4 Ferris State (25-11-1, 16-7-5 CCHA) with a berth in the national championship game at stake. Both Union and Ferris State are making their first appearances in the Frozen Four. Union, the No. 3 overall seed, earned its first two NCAA Tournament wins in the Division I era over Michigan State and UMass-Lowell, winning the East Regional in Bridgeport, CT. Ferris State's road to Tampa included wins over Denver and Cornell as the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Regional in Green Bay, WI. Union appeared in the national semifinals twice at the Division III level in 1984 and 1985. The opening face-off will be Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on 104.5 "The Team".

Union Men’s Hockey Wins ECAC Monthly Awards

Junior forward Jeremy Welsh, freshman forward Max Novak and sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick all earned ECAC Hockey monthly honors, the league announced on Friday. Welsh was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, Novak earned Rookie of the Month honors, and Grosenick was named Goaltender of the Month for the second time this season.
