Since the Yankees couldn't give Brian Cashman a proper birthday present earlier this week with a victory at Tampa Bay, the 45-year-old General Manager decided to claim a present of his own from the waiver wire this afternoon. His name is Darnell McDonald, a former Baltimore Oriole farm product who most recently spent time with the Boston Red Sox.

For some reason, I'm not shocked at all that this has happened. However, to witness this dramatic fall from grace over the last 3 years has been sad, depressing and disappointing. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings are expected to grant quarterback Donovan McNabb's request to be released.

The New York Rangers have officially placed Sean Avery on re-entry waivers, signaling the fan favorite will likely return to the team. Assuming Avery clears re-entry waivers at noon Tuesday, he could be recalled in time for Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
