Mark Teixeira hit a grand slam off Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda pitched into the seventh inning as the Yankees beat the Mariners, 7-2, on a damp night in Seattle.

After breezing through the first three innings, Hernandez hit trouble in the Yanks' half of the fourth when he appeared to not be comfortable with the mound after some rain had fallen earlier in the game.

Brett Gardner led off the fourth with single to left and Chase Headley singled him to third. Hernandez threw a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Yankees. After a walk to Alex Rodriguez loaded the bases with nobody out, Brian McCann hit into a double play to score a run.

In the fifth, the Yankees made life tough for Hernandez again: Headley hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 and Teixeira connected for a grand slam with the bases loaded to make it 7-0.

In the bottom half of the seventh, the Mariners chased Pineda after a triple by Seth Smith made it 7-1 and a double by Austin Jackson made it 7-2.

Justin Wilson came in the game with runners on first and second and nobody out, and then promptly struck out Mike Zunino and got Rickie Weeks to hit into a double play.

The two teams play again tonight at 10:10.
