The New Jersey Devils wish they had won the cup this easily last season vs the LA Kings. Their minor league brothers, the Albany Devils can claim a piece of hardware already this season. However this cup means little except you have dominated your chief rival, the Adirondack Phantoms.

In front of a record crowd Saturday night the Devils polished off the Phantoms 5-2 and thus clinch the season series and win that TWCC.  With the win the Devils lead the season series 6-1-0-1.

This being the final game before the AHL all star game the Devils saved nothing. They scored 3 goals in the 1st and coasted to victory behind red hot goal tender Keith Kinkaid. He improved to 14-8-4 for the year. The Devs go to the break having turned around their early season struggles. They now stand at 17-14-1-8.

Kinkaid was aided by a vibrant offensive attack led by Harri Pesonen who potted 2 goals. The Devils were outshot by Adirondack 28-19.

Kudos also to Albany and Capital Region hockey fans who showed up in big numbers Saturday, to the tune of an Albany Devil record 10,218 hockey fans packed the Times Union Center.

The Devils will now rest like the rest of the AHl for the break but when they return it will be on the road-6 straight road games in fact starting in Providence which is where the all star game will be played.
