Well there is no-I mean NO suspense who will start the All Star game for the National League. The remarkable R.A. Dickey became the first National League pitcher to hurl back to back one-hitters, this time befuddling the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 Monday Night at Citifield.

It was only a couple of weeks back I had a chance to interview Dickey about his new book and the Mets early success. Anyone listening to that interview on 1045 The team-ESPN radio during my "Game On" radio program had to come away impressed with R.A.'s humbleness. If you read the book he just put out " Where ever I wind up : My quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball.

Dickey's book  was captivating. His life story sad really in many ways. But also hopeful and for many cathartic. Dickey told me it was Cathartic for him. But right now  the knucke ball throwing Dickey is confounding experts and fans alike. For a knuckle baller to put up the numbers he is is truly amazing.

Dickey allowed only a 5th inning single to the O's Wilson Betemit. Ike Davis slowing getting that average up near .200 (.196) crushed a 6th inning Grand Slam off Baltimore starter Jake Arrieta. Davis's average was down near 150 just a few weeks back.

Dickey tied a National League record throwing back to back 1 hitters, last spun in the senior circuit in 1944. This for a guy who doesn't hit 85 on the radar gun EVER. His knuckleball is revolutionary. His numbers remarkable. Dickey struck out 13 in tying Jim Tobin of the old Boston Braves mark.

The back to back gems marked the 1st time in 24 years any pitcher has back to back one-hitters. Then it was Dave Steib of the Toronto Blue Jays.

If the weather holds true, and it is supposed to be real hot in the next few days in New York. Dickey will next take the mound on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball  against the New York Yankees vs CC Sabathia who also hurled a complete game in defeating the Atlanta Braves Monday Night.
