The Day I Shared the Field With a Hall of Famer
Some of you remember. Some of you don't. Some of you care. Some of you don't. And any of that is fine.
In May I wrote about the experience I had being a bullpen catcher at the Hall of Fame Classic in Cooperstown. You can read it here.
Each team sent a representative to play in the game, a recent retiree that could still play. I conversed with several players including Jim Thome and Jack Wilson.
I caught Dan Wheeler, Steve Avery, Todd Jones and Carl Pavano.
It was the the coolest thing I've ever done on a baseball field.
But now, after the announcement of the Hall of Fame Class of 2015 on Tuesday, I bring it up again.
Who else was playing in that game? Pedro Martinez. Hall of Famer, Pedro Martinez.
Now, Pedro didn't warm up on my side. I didn't speak to him. I stood within feet of him at the pre-game launch. I stood within feet of him on Doubleday Field and that was it.
But nonetheless, I shared the field, that day, with a Hall of Famer.
