After a mostly dismal off season, the New Jersey Devils made a good move that is productive.

The Devs re-up center Adam Henrique to a long term contract. Sources say the deal is for about 24 million over 6 years. The deal works for both sides as New Jersey gets a good player under contract for a reasonable cap price and Henrique gets some long term security.

Henrique of course is loathed by Ranger fans ( me included) for his game winning goal in the eastern conference finals 2 years ago to send the NY Rangers packing. The Devils then lost in the Stanley Cup finals to the champion LA Kings.

The Devils couldn't afford to lose Henrique after a tough off season that saw their top scorer, Ilya Kovalchuk, to a Russian hockey club and they lost David Clarkson in free agency to Toronto. Jersey did acquire goal tender Cory Schneider to eventually replace Martin Brodeur and they did sign geriatric Jaromir Jagr.

The Devils also have new owners to start off the season. Training camps begin in the next couple of weeks and the season starts September 14th. The preseason that is.

Last season Henrique scored 11 goals and added 5 assists in the shortened season. As a rookie in 2011/2012 the young center notched 51 points.
