What’s happened:

Credit the Yanks for starting the Rays on a slump right out of the postseason. New
York’s 6-4 exciting win thanks to bad defense by the Rays and a Russell Martin 3-run
homer gave the Bombers the series. An off-day Monday and a rainout with Toronto on
Tuesday made Yankee fans wait for.

What’s to come:

Andy Pettitte’s return. The Yanks and Jays play a double-header on Wednesday with
Pettitte scheduled to pitch Game One. Then one more with Toronto in the Bronx
on Thursday before a crucial three-game set Friday-Sunday with the Athletics. The
Athletics, who, like the Orioles, have hung in the race. Amazing stuff.

Highlight of the Week:

Eduardo Nunez the speedster. Nunez stole two key bases for the Yanks in Sunday’s win
over the Rays. He became the second player for New York to steal at least 10 bases this
year despite playing in only 29 games. The steals led to a run off of an Alex Rodriguez
sacrifice fly.
