With Niskayuna's Garrett Whitley expected to be one of the many high schoolers drafted in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft on Monday night, Buster Olney discussed the transition for a high schooler to the minors:

"I think it is a lot better than it used to be," Buster told Armen and Levack, on 104.5 The Team. "It used to be like throwing someone in the deep side of the pool and saying time to swim.

"There is more of a support staff in place than there used to be. I will give you an example. In 1997 I was covering the Mets and they had a first round pick named Ryan Jaroncyk and Ryan was in professional baseball, he was a shortstop and he played for about a year.

"There was an automobile accident and one of his teammates was killed and he quit baseball a year after being drafted. He walked away and in part said he did not like the culture of guys who did not have enough money and they’re all eating McDonald’s and there was a ton of drinking going on.

"Now I think they monitor those guys and give those guys a lot more support than they did 16, 17 years ago."

Buster Olney joins Armen and Levack every Thursday at 5:15pm ET on 'Your Home for New York Yankees Baseball', 104.5 The Team.
