1941 — Don Hutson of the Green Bay Packers scored three touchdowns and kicked two extra points, moving his seasonal points total to an NFL record 95, in the Packers’ 22-17 win over the Washington Redskins. (More info.)

1956 — Floyd Patterson, 21, became the then-youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history when he knocked out Archie Moore in the fifth round of their fight at Chicago Stadium. (More info.)

1974 — USC scored 49 unanswered points in the second half and beat Notre Dame, 55-24, at the Los Angeles Coliseum. (More info.)

1987 — Bo Jackson of the Raiders set the team’s single-game rushing record of 221 yards — including running over linebacker Brian Bosworth for a touchdown — as Los Angeles beat the Seattle Seahawks, 37-14. (More info.)
