I used to hate the bye week as an NFL fan. Oh, you get the usual from the teams. If you are winning they will say it is a good time for a break. If they're losing they will say it is a good time for a break. In other words, just cliches and script reading.

For me this Sunday will be nice and quiet. I will have rooting interest in a few ballgames, especially Giants-Steelers (Go G-Men) Fins-Colts  Let's go Indy!) and Cards-Packers (living in Arizona for 20 years made me like the Cards a bit) but none of them gives me the anxiety of watching the Jets and that I am thrilled about.

This Sunday I can watch other teams make themselves look like fools, but not my Jets. I can watch other teams stumble around like drunks on offense, but not my Jets. I can watch other quarterbacks throw brutal picks, but not my Mark Sanchez. I can watch other teams throw the ball for two yards on 3rd and 4, but not my Jets.

I can watch other teams give lame effort but not my Jets. I can watch other big backs try and run outside the tackles, but not my Shonn Greene. I can watch other teams get a first down on 3rd and 15, but not against my Jets. Nope, this Sunday I am free of all this ineptitude and then post game excuses.

Come Monday on the radio show (Game on With Bruce Jacobs, 3-7 p.m. on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio) I can take calls from fans of other teams expressing outrage at coaches and refs, players, and whatever else they want to vent at.

This Sunday I won't have to watch inept offensive play caller Tony Sparano call bad plays and try and out fox the defense when he can't out fox a fox. I won't have to sit through a Rex Ryan post game presser expressing how great the team is and forget the loss.

I won't have to sit through a defense that can't stop third down and a defensive line that can't get to the quarterback unless some exotic blitz is used. I won't have to watch the loudmouths in the secondary like La'Ron Landry and Antonio Cromartie take selfish 15 yard penalties.

Do I sound like a bitter Jet fan? Yes? Good, because I am! This season of huge disappointment has made me relish the Sunday off and gear up for the beat down coming next Sunday in Seattle against the vastly improved Seahawks.

No, I am not bitter but I am no longer drinking Green Kool-Aid either. I spent August, September and October in dream world but now the Jets are what the Jets are. Not good and not a playoff team!

Lastly, I am hoping but not expecting the lazy media to find something else to talk about Monday then Sanchez and Tebow. Oh wait, that isn't going to happen. Nevermind, but I do get a pain free Sunday and for that I am grateful. I love these bye weeks!
