On Thursday night in Washington, D.C., Lyle Thompson became the first men's lacrosse player to win the Tewaaraton Award in back-to-back seasons.

Thompson scored 121 points this season to help pace the UAlbany offense, which was the top offense in the nation.

In 2014, he split the award with his brother Miles. UAlbany advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals each of the last two seasons.

“It feels good. I am proud of my team, proud of everything they have helped me with these four years, and everything we have accomplished at UAlbany. That is what matters to me, is that the name 2015 UAlbany lacrosse team is on the trophy," he said.

The award puts an exclamation point on the career on one of the sport's best players ever. Thompson scored 400 collegiate points, most all-time.

“What a fitting way to end one of the most outstanding careers ever.  He will go down as one of the best players to ever play, and we are looking forward to seeing him play in the professional and national levels," UAlbany head coach Scott Marr said.
