In a very odd move yesterday, Tiger Woods let go of his caddie of 12 years, Steve Williams.  The two of them won a total of 13 majors together.

Of all the people surrounding Tiger Woods, Steve Williams may have provided the most stability over the 12 years they were paired up.  After the news came Williams said that he was shocked.  He also added that a player can fire a caddie at any time, and when he isn't playing his best it's not uncommon for a player to change caddies.

Williams has worked for Greg Norman and Raymond Floyd in the past and was working with Adam Scott over the past 2 tournaments including last weekends British Open where he was asked if he was still working with Woods.  He could have given the answer right then because apparently Williams knew for weeks that this was coming, but asked Woods to wait till after the British Open to make the official announcement.

A source close to Williams said that in recent times the two close friends were very out of touch.  Williams didn't even know Woods planned on sitting out the US Open until he flew from new Zealand to Oregon.
