Tiger Woods did something he has never done and in doing so almost won his 1st tournament of the year and ended his longest drought. However Tiger's record final round of 62 wasn't enough as he fell short of N.Irelands Rory McIlroy at the Honda classic.

For all the wonderful things Tiger has done in his career on the golf course he had never shot a 62 in the final round, and as he fired in birds and eagles he moved from a starting position of 17th to take the clubhouse lead at -10.

McIlroy started the day in 1st and ended it, both on the Honda Score board and in the world. The victory knocked Luke Donald out of the top position and put the young Irish golfer at that coveted spot.

McIlroy carded a final round  69 to win the match. Woods who lost his putting stroke in previous weeks finished tied for 2nd with unknown Tom Gilles who takes home his fattest paycheck ever on tour.

Woods carded 2 eagles on this final Sunday including a huge putt on  the par 5 18th hole that gave him the temporary lead. The crowd went berserk as only Tiger can get a Golf crowd to do with that eagle on 18. McIlroy, from Northern Ireland stepped off a putt on the 13th green hearing the throng go nuts but he never lost his composure as many have done in Tiger's wake in previous years. The 2nd place finish was Tiger's best since the tour championship in 2009. Meanwhile for McIlroy the win launched him to the  top spot in the world, only the 16th golfer to sit at this position since it was started in 1986. The win was his 5th since he turned pro and 3rd on the PGA tour.
