Good news for the Capital Region sports fan during the holiday season:

Stauffer, the Spa Catholic graduate, has played parts of 10 seasons in the major leagues, nine of which came with the San Diego Padres. He spent last season with the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets systems.

He has a career 33-34 record with a 3.97 ERA. He has spent most of his time as a reliever but has made 73 career starts.

There's no guarantee he makes the Diamondbacks out of spring training but this seems like a good fit for any player right now. The D'Backs have had a very active offseason, signing Zack Greinke and trading for Braves RH Shelby Miller.

They also boast a great offense with Paul Goldschmidt and AJ Pollock.
