We all love #1 vs #2 matchups in sports. Last night a new one was born.

The Edmonton Oilers faced the Buffalo Sabres last night in what may become one of the more exciting future rivalries in the NHL. The Oilers, led by #1 overall selection and NHL rookie of the month for February, Connor McDavid, came into the First Niagara Center in Buffalo at the bottom of their conference. #2 overall pick Jack Eichel and the Sabres weren't doing much better. But what we saw could possibly be the future of hockey.

The two faced off for the first time in their careers and they did not disappoint. McDavid scored both goals, including the game-winner for the Oilers as they beat the Sabres 2-1 in overtime. Eichel won a crucial face-off against McDavid late in the game and narrowly missed the 'would-be' game winner on a breakaway in overtime; which McDavid would grab and go the length of the ice to score the winner. These two 19-year-olds showed us that hockey has a very bright future.
