Smoking. Sizzling. Enfuego. All those describe the shooting touch of the Great Danes, especially in the 1st half of their game against Hartford University Saturday. And they all add up to a total destruction as well as the Danes pound the Hartford Hawks 75-49 and take over 4th place in the America East standings.

Check out these impressive numbers for UAlbany. They led 40-20 at the break and you might say Hartford was lucky to only be down 20. The Great Danes shot 70% in the 1st half. They hit 10 of their 1st 13 shots. For the game they shot 55%. That number was higher from downtown as they nailed 10 of 16 3 point attempts.

The senior back court of Jacob Iati and Mike Black both had solid ballgames. Iati had 18 of those points. Black had 14 points and 3 assists.

The Great Danes coasted in the 2nd half and Hartford never got the deficit into single digits.

This was a big win for UAlbany as they jostle for position in the America East Conference. UAlbany sweeps the 2 game season setup vs the Hawks and propel themselves a full game up on Hartford, 2 thanks to the sweep of both regular season games.

Not to be lost in the scintillating shooting display was the Great Danes shut down defense, as Hartford shot only 31% from the floor.

UAlbany now trails Boston U by half game for 3rd place and has crept back into the race for the regular season title. They trail 2nd place Vermont by 1 game for 2nd and are 2.5 back of Stony Brook for the top spot with 4 regular season games left. They will tangle with Boston University Wednesday night. 3 of the 4 games left in the season are road contests but UAlbany has fared well away from home this year, as they are 9-3 away from home so far this season
