The University at Albany football team played another terrific game on Saturday and now they sit alone in first place of the Northeast Conference.

The Great Danes dropped their first two games of the season, but have won four in a row since, including three league games.

On Saturday, UAlbany defeated Robert Morris, 28-17, knocking the Colonials from the ranks of the unbeatens and making another statement to the rest of the league.

The Great Danes were chosen fourth in the preseason, but have been working hard to prove they are a very capable team.

If one stat is indicative of how UAlbany has been rolling, its that in the past two games - both billed as first-place showdowns - the Great Danes have outscored their opponents 45-0 in the first half.

UAlbany is averaging 33.3 points per game and 37.8 points per game in its four victories.

On Saturday, the Great Danes finished with 473 yards of total offense, getting a career-high 279 yards passing from senior quarterback Dan Di Lella and nearly 100 yards rushing apiece from Dillon Romain (93) and Drew Simth (90).

UAlbany is making a strong case that they are the best team in the conference, something they will have to continue to prove for the next five weeks.

Last season was the first year that the Northeast Conference winner earned a berth to the FCS NCAA tournament field of 20 teams.

The UAlbany players know that is what is waiting for them, if they continue to play well and the seniors are gunning for a postseason berth, which would be the first in program history.
