Even though we are still two weeks from the start of the college basketball season, UAlbany has already received some bad news.

Newcomer Chas Brown will not be playing for the Danes, as he will return home to Baltimore after the semester ends.

Brown, a 6-8 junior from Baltimore City Community College, has a family issue that requires his heading home to deal with.

The loss of a player of that size will be huge for the Danes, who have to deal with Stony Brook's Jameel Warney (6-8, 260) if they want to win the America East tournament championship for the fourth straight year.

Coming from Brown's bio:

Before UAlbany: A Second Team Maryland JUCO Conference selection and All-Region NJCAA pick out of Baltimore City Community College…A three-year team captain in high school, taking All-Metro accolades in 2012…Averaged 10.9 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game at BCCC in 24 starting assignments…Led the Panthers to a 19-13 record and a second-straight NJCAA Division I Region 20 Championship in 2015.

Brown's absence means that Will Brown will have to rely on the returning triumvirate of Mike Rowley, Richard Peters, and Greig Stire.

I think those players have enough to help the Danes defensively in the paint, and I think Rowley provides the potential for solid offensive production.
