The most successful regular season for UAlbany in years came to a conclusion Sunday in a tough loss at Stony Brook 75-70. The 21 win Great Danes finished 5th in the America East Conference. Their 1st round opponent in the conference tourney will be the 6th seeded Maine Black Bears Saturday at 8:00 P.M.

1st the finale vs Stony Brook. No shame losing a close game against the top seeded Seawolves. The game was tied at the half at 35. Free throws basically decided this contest, that and the Seawolves defense. Mike Blacks pair of freebies gave UAlbany the lead 65-64 with just over 4 minutes left. However the Seawolves clamped down on the defensive end and on the offensive end Stony Brook hit 7 straight free throws down the stretch to keep UAlbany at bay.

The Danes shot a sizzling 56.5 from the floor, a stunning stat considering Stony Brook has the 2nd best defensive club in the nation, holding clubs to 36.8% shooting. Black and back court mate Jacob Iati both hit for 17. No Stony Brook starter scored more then 10. Rather it was Carson Puriefov off the bench with 17 leading the Wolves.

Stony Brook finishes 1st in the conference with a 23-6 overall record and 14-2 in the conference. They swept UAlbany this season. Stony Brook will take on 8th seed Binghamton who finished 3-26.

UAlabny will get the 6th seeded Black Bears. Maine finished the regular season 11-18, 6-10 in the America East. The winner of this game will likely take on Stony Brook in round 2 barring an unforeseen upset by Binghamton. The Great Danes split the 2 game season set with Maine.
