One day after the UAlbany men's basketball team narrowly beat the University of New Hampshire, the Great Dane women found themselves in a dogfight with the Wildcats.

Tied at 47-47 with 11:05 to play, the Danes used a 29-18 run over the rest of the game to propel themselves to a 76-65 win on Wednesday night at SEFCU Arena. 

The win puts UAlbany at 9-6 overall and 2-0 in America East play.

Junior standout Shereesha Richards led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win while senior guard Sarah Royals added 17 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor and 6-8 from the line. 

Royals also dished out six assists in the win, giving her 375 total for her career. She is now tied with Samantha Ginsberg for the programs all-time lead.

“[Sarah] was my first recruit, and when I came to see her play, I saw grit and toughness. She has had some great post players, and she is going to break that record and hopefully hold it for a long time,” UAlbany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson told UAlbanysports.com. 

The Danes play at UMass-Lowell on Saturday afternoon.
