U-Albany’s Cole King has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week in football. The redshirt freshman wide receiver caught five passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns in last Saturday’s 41-20 victory against Saint Francis (PA).

The Syracuse, NY native became UAlbany’s first 100-yard receiver since October 24, 2009 and tied the program’s FCS single-game record for TD receptions. King hauled in a 19-yard scoring pass to break a 7-7 tie with 2:42 remaining in the second quarter, and then added a 49-yard touchdown grab on the first play of the fourth period, which gave the Great Danes a 31-13 advantage.

King, who is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals’ 1985 first-round draft choice Emanuel King, has 12 receptions for a team-high 225 yards through four games this season. The Great Danes host Northeast Conference-leader Duquesne (4-1, NEC 2-0) on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
