It was a historic win for the US men, as they beat the Italian national team for the first time ever.  Clint Dempsy's goal in the 55th minute propelled the USA to victory. The USA has faced Italy 11 times over the last 78 years, and in that time their only win came yesterday, February 29th.  It was a 1-0 victory thanks to the foot of Clint Dempsy who scored the winning goal.  This is also big for USA soccer in general.

I like to think that we're closing the gap and hopefully one day we can do something special.

-Clint Dempsy

This is also big for the new coach of the USA team, Jurgen Klinsmann.  He said that it's huge to beat Italy on their home soil, and it is a big step in the right direction for the team.  Klinsmann took over for former coach Bob Bradley in July.
