No United States, none of the sport's biggest names deep into the tournament and a very premature departure by the defending champs, yet the buzz around the World Cup could not have been bigger. The tournament was filled with video replay drama, stoppage and extra time goals and shootouts.

No red, white and blue from the States, but those colors were flying with France. Quite literally when you consider the speed of 19-year old sensation Kylian Mbappe. French midfielder Paul Pogba garnered many of the headlines and magazine covers for that matter going into this World Cup, but his physical presence had balance from players like Mbappe and the French side presented an offensive attack that proved to be difficult all the way through Croatia in the final.
