The Tri-City ValleyCats head into the midway point of the New York-Penn League season on the heels of a win last night, having topped the West Virginia Black Bears by a score of 5-1.

The win moved the 'Cats to 20-17 overall in the 76-game season and Tri-City holds a 1.5 game lead over the Connecticut Tigers in a crowded Stedler Division race.

After Tri-City and Connecticut, the Lowell Spinners are 2.0 games back and the Vermont Lake Monsters are 4.5 games back.

The ValleyCats won the Stedler Division last season and advanced to the NY-PL championship series, where they lost to the State College Spikes in three games. The ValleyCats won the championship in 2013.

The second half of the season includes several ValleyCats home games at Joe Bruno Stadium. The 'Cats have 22 regular season games remaining at "The Joe," and could add more if the 'Cats are able to make the playoffs again.

Tri-City hosts West Virginia tonight at 7 p.m. on "Jose Altuve Bat Night."
