The Yankees now have 19 numbers in Monument Park. Is it too much?

"No question," said SNY's Chris Carlin, to 'Armen and Levack', on 104.5 The Team. "Enough. Specifically for the Yankees, when you do something like that, it has to be for the elite of the elite.

"Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are the elite of the elite. When it comes to the Yankees, their numbers should be retired. The other two? Not so much."

Posada and Pettitte aren't the only numbers that have been extreme, according to Carlin.

"Tino Martinez, for pete’s sake! That happened earlier this year and I can’t get past that. I understand that there may be the thought, ‘We have to get people in this ballpark and we might not be that good later in the year’. There’s no doubt that honoring those guys are nice to the fans but to me it takes away from the specialness to what it means to be an all-time great."

"As I was watching it, something about it just didn't seem right," Jeff Levack said, on 104.5 The Team. "I just kept asking myself, 'Is it really necessary to retire those two numbers?'"

'Armen and Leavck' can be heard weekdays from 3-7p ET, on 'Your Home for New York Sports', 104.5 The Team.
