We Might Have A Future Champion
I know that the Capital Region has a great history of boxing. Mike Tyson made his professional debut in Downtown Albany while Shannon Miller had one of the best televised fights by ESPN a few years ago.
But I think I just might have seen the best fighter to ever come out of this region.
Last night, I had a chance to check out the Valentine's Day Crushers Pro/Am boxing event at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.
Guilderland's Mike Faragon defeated Shamir Reyes in a unanimous decision. Faragon's record is now a perfect 14-0 (with 6 KO's).
But it's not just his undefeated record that's impressive. It's his style and desire. Faragon just looks like a winner. He's just flat-out got the look of a champion.
Remember, "Baby Face" Mikey was a two-time New York State Golden Gloves Champion and nearly made the U.S. Olympic boxing team a few years ago.
Mark my words people: the next time Faragon fights around here, you'd better go and watch him. Because he might not be fighting around here for much longer. I think he'll be off to do bigger and better things on the national stage very soon.
