The Yankees (46-30) and the White Sox (42-35) combined for 21 runs and 30 hits in what wasn’t exactly a pitcher’s duel with two rookies starting. After going up 4-0 in the first inning the Yankees ended up losing the game 14-7.

The Yankees jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a Curtis Granderson two run homer and an Andruw Jones two run double but the White Sox would answer right back in the top of the second. It was Granderson’s team leading 22nd home run.

Yankees starter Adam Warren who was called up from Triple A earlier in the week was clobbered in his debut. In 2 1/3 innings Warren gave up six runs on eight hits and threw 77 pitches.  After throwing a scoreless first Warren surrendered a leadoff home run to A.J Pierzynski and the Sox added three more in the second inning tying the game. Pierzynski would hit a second home run later in the game off of David Phelps giving him 14 for the season

In the third Paul Konerko led off with a home run and that was it for Warren.  David Phelps came on and pitched 3 1/3 gave up two runs on four hits and struck out five.

In the fourth inning Jayson Nix laced a two run double to left field tying the game at six. That was it for the Yanks; the White Sox took the lead on the second Pierzynski home run in the fifth and an Alex Rios two run single in the sixth.

White Sox starter Jose Quintana went six innings gave up six runs on eight hits and struck out five.

Cory Wade surrendered a two run homer to Alexei Ramirez in the eighth inning; Ramirez’s second of the season.

Wade gave up four more runs in the top of the ninth prompting Joe Girardi to bring in outfielder Dewayne Wise to finish out the inning. Wise got both hitters out he faced with a fastball in the high 70’s.
