Whitley Featured in Rays Prospect Video

Niskayuna graduate Garrett Whitley is currently in his first professional baseball season in the Tampa Bay Rays system.

Whitley was assigned to the Rays Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Rays have a video series on their website, called "Prospect Spotlight" in which they run features and packages on Rays prospects. Check out one from this week, in which Whitley is heavily featured. HINT, Whitley coverage begins at about 6:30.

Whitley has played four games for the GCL Rays, talling two hits in 11 at-bats. Only playing four games since he signed his deal is not a concern for those in the Capital Region: Whitley's Rays have had several rainouts in the time since he signed.

Whitley was the No. 13 pick overall in the MLB Draft this season out of Niskayuna. It's the second time in as many years that a Capital Region product was taken in the first round: (Jeff Hoffman/Shaker, 9th overall in 2014).
