For the first time in 12 seasons, the New York Yankees find themselves going into spring training without a leader. Ever since an awkward night in Cincinnati, the Yankees have had No.2 Derek Jeter as its captain, and leader.

While Jeter has never been the rah-rah locker room guy, he has always had an untouchable demeanor surrounding him.

The Yankees have missed the playoffs in two straight seasons, and for only the third time in 20 years. Figuring out who is going to be the marquee player to lead the team, has to be high up on Manager Joe Girardi's list.
