Through the weekend, the two teams that Will Brown has interviewed with still have head coach openings, despite updates within the last 24 hours.

At Fordham, Eastern Kentucky coach Jeff Neubauer was reportedly on campus Sunday to interview. With George Mason, UC Irvine’s Russell Turner turned down a lucrative offer to head to the east coast, and will stay with his program.

So, what is the attractive option for Brown?

“I don’t know [Brown] was offered the Fordham job that he would take it,” said Zach Braziller, of the New York Post, with Armen and Levack on 104.5 The Team. “It’s a very, very, very, tough job.

Other candidates for Fordham include Rider coach Kevin Baggett, Stony Brook’s Steve Pikiell and possibly Robert Morris’ Andy Toole.

There are several aspects of the Fordham gig that don’t seem attractive.

“It’s a very difficult job,” said Braziller. “You’re in the Atlantic-10, which is now a brutal conference. Their facilities are old; it’s a very hard place to win there. A lot of people think Fordham needs to change conferences and move to either the Patriot League where they used to play or the MAAC to really be a consistent winner.”

Meanwhile, Braziller says he’s “very confident” that Brown would jump on the opportunity to coach at George Mason, though it’s unknown if Brown is truly a top candidate for that position.

Either way, it’s clear that Brown has gotten noticed and while he’s been at UAlbany for 14 years, it will become more and more difficult for the Great Danes to hang onto him.

“Will is a great coach. We’ve obviously seen what he’s done at Albany leading them to each of the last three NCAA tournaments.  He’s known as someone who does more with less.

“I think it’s going to be hard for Albany to keep him for very much longer. Will is a very respected coach and not just in the northeast, but all over everyone knows how good of a coach he is. That Albany team was not expected to win the league this year as we all know, and they had a tremendous season.”

The Great Danes fell to Oklahoma in the round of 64 by a score of 69-60. OU lost to No.7 Michigan State in the Sweet Sixteen over the weekend.

“If I’m Albany,” said Braziller, “I’m crossing my finger s because I wouldn’t expect him to be there that much longer.”
