After being out nearly a year, Serena Williams was back in action yesterday to defend her Wimbledon title.  She did so by beating Aravane Rezai in 3 sets, a win that got the tennis great very emotional.

Williams was out for a year battling health issues that saw her needing two foot operations and treating a blood clot in her lung.  A very traumatic time for her, so it's no surprised that in her first big match back she won and got a bit teary.  She'll now move onto the next round.

Her sister Venus is also moving on.  She is in second round action today starting at 7am on ESPN 2.

Andy Roddick is having a good start on the men's side of the tournament.  He beat his opponent yesterday in 3 straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.   Roddick has never lost in the first round of Wimbledon, and keeps up that tradition.  He had a total of 30 aces, including 4 in a row which gave him the win in the first game.

People still doubt that Andy Roddick has what it takes to win this tournament, but the three time finalist has other things in mind.  He seems to be playing better than he has in the past, and this year could be the year.

I'm pretty happy with where my game is right now. I feel healthy and I know what it takes to go deep at this tournament.

-Andy Roddick
