Oh this ought to be good. A team known to have little patience with ineptitude and a fan base that has less. Inept would describe best the pitching prowess of Reliever Chad Qualls who is now a Yankee. Good luck with this.

The Yanks aquired the much traveled relief pitcher from the fading fast Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later. Ask Phillies fan or Rays fan or Dianmondback fan and they would surrender anything that breaths for this still.

Qualls was recently designated for assignmnt by the besieged Phillies. The Yanks bit and made the deal. To make room on the 40 man roster the Yanks  designated infielder Matt Antonelli for assignment.

Qualls appeared in a Philly high 46 games and his E.R.A. was 4.60, allowing 39 hits in 31 1/3 innings, walking 9 and striking out 19.

Yanks manager Joe Girardi whose team just finished up a 4 game split with the Whitesox and now get back into the division with games at Tampa and Boston before the all star break said of Qualls " he is the kind of guy that can get it up to 95 mph, somewhat of a power guy, a sinker guy. Very tough on right handers".  Yeak ok Joe-righty of lefty they drool when getting in the box against Qualls.

The recent troubles of Cory Wade put the pressure on the Yanks to make a move.

The Phillies look more and more like sellers as we get into July. A team that was heavily favored to win the N.L East is in last place. Cole Hamels could be the next to go before the 1st trading deadline of July 31st. Hamels is a free agent after this season. Cliff Lee the high priced free agent whom I said would go down as 1 of the biggest free agent busts ever is winless through the 1st 3 months of the year. The celler dweller Phils are 36-45 and 11 games out of 1st place
