The Yankees (5-4) bats came alive for the rubber match of the three game weekend series against the Angels (3-6). They managed to get 11 runs across the plate en route to a victory. Yankees starter Ivan Nova pitched good enough to pick up his second victory in as many starts this season. He went six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits striking out eight along the way. Nova, coming off of a strong rookie season, continues to pitch well consistently, something Yankees starters have struggled to do to start the season.  The Yankee offense got to Angels starting pitcher Jerome Williams early. Williams only managed 2 2/3 innings giving up five runs on five hits. The Angels' bullpen was no match for the Yankees Sunday night either. Each reliever after Williams (Hisanori Takahashi, David Carpenter and Jason Isringhausen) all gave up at least a run a piece.

The Yankee lineup gathered twelve base hits, each starter with at least one with the exception of Russell Martin. Derek Jeter, who has gotten off to a hot start (.366 BA), had another multi-hit game including a 3-run home run in the fourth inning, his second of the season. Robinson Cano had two hits and scored three runs. The biggest blast of the night came off the bat of Raul Ibanez; in the bottom of the seventh he lifted a two run home run into right field upper deck, a rare feat.

The Angels, despite losing, did manage 11 hits. Howie Kendrick had three hits and was just a home run short of the cycle. Mark Trumbo and Chris Ianetta both homered off of Nova, both their second of the season.

The Minnesota Twins visit New York to start a four-game series tomorrow. The Yankees will send Freddy Garcia (0-0 5.79) while the Twins will start ex-Yankee Carl Pavano (0-1 5.93). Pregame starts at 6:30, first pitch at 7:05 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
