Yankees Beat White Sox 4-2

The Yankees (48-30) and the White Sox (42-37) squared off on Sunday for the final game of the four game weekend series and the Yankees were able to come away with their second victory in a row beating the White Sox 4-2 and splitting the series at two games apiece.

It looked like it might be a long day for Phil Hughes early on in the game. In the first inning the White Sox jumped out to an early lead. Alejandro De Aza led off with a double in the right center field gap and Kevin Youkilis followed with a RBI single putting the White Sox up 1-0. Youkilis would come around to score later in the inning on an Alex Rios RBI single putting the White Sox up 2-0.

That would be it for the White Sox though, Hughes was outstanding the rest of the game shutting down the White Sox. Hughes went eight innings gave up two runs on six hits and struck out eight.

The Yankees got on the board in the bottom of the second inning off of White Sox starter Gavin Floyd when Eric Chavez hit a towering two run home run to right field into the second deck. It was Chavez sixth of the season and tied the game at two.

In the bottom of the third Robinson Cano continued his hot hitting blasting a two run home run to right field putting the Yankees up 4-2. It was Cano’s 20^th home run of the season and 12^th since June 1^st. Cano tied Curtis Granderson for a team leading 46 RBIs on the season.

Gavin Floyd went 5 1/3 gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out three in the loss (6-8).

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth inning for his 18th save of the season.
