The New York Yankees have declined the 2012 contract option on lefty Damaso Marte.

Marte did not throw a single pitch in 2011 as he was recovering from left labrum surgery back in October of 2009 after winning the World Series. Marte in 2009 with the Yankees went 1-3 with a 6.39 ERA. However, his best work came in the postseason, especially in the World Series.

In the World Series he pitched 3 total innings of perfect baseball retiring all 12 batters he faced, including retiring Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the clinching game 6.

The Yankees will pay Marte $250,000 for the buyout and avoiding the $4 million owed to him if the option were picked up.
